NFC Stickers
NFC Stickers
Section titled “NFC Stickers”NFC stickers are small passive tags you stick on everyday objects. Tap your iPhone to a sticker and TAP marks the linked task done or adds a log entry — no unlocking, no opening the app.
This is TAP’s most tactile feature. Sticking a tag on your toothbrush, gym bag, coffee machine, or pill bottle turns the physical object into the trigger for the habit.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”Stickers: NTAG213 stickers are the recommended choice — cheapest, widely available, and fully supported by iOS. A pack of 50 costs around $10 on Amazon. Any NTAG213-compatible sticker works; shape and size don’t matter.
iPhone: NFC background tag reading requires iPhone XS or later.
What NFC stickers can be linked to
Section titled “What NFC stickers can be linked to”Both Tasks and Logs support NFC sticker pairing.
- Task + sticker → tapping the sticker marks the task complete for the current interval
- Log + sticker → tapping the sticker adds an entry to the log with the current timestamp
One sticker can only be linked to one task or log at a time. One task or log can have multiple stickers linked to it (useful if you want the same habit triggered from different locations — a sticker at home and one at work).
Pairing a sticker with a Task
Section titled “Pairing a sticker with a Task”- Open the task you want to pair
- Tap the NFC TAG card on the task detail screen — it shows “Not linked” if no stickers are paired
- Tap Manage
- Tap Add Tag and hold your iPhone near a blank sticker
- TAP writes the task link to the sticker — you’ll feel a haptic confirmation
The sticker is now active. Tap your iPhone to it anywhere and the task is marked complete.
Pairing a sticker with a Log
Section titled “Pairing a sticker with a Log”- Open the log you want to pair
- Find the NFC option in the log detail screen
- Tap Add Tag and hold your iPhone near a blank sticker
- TAP writes the log link to the sticker
Every subsequent tap adds a new entry to the log with the current timestamp.
Using a sticker
Section titled “Using a sticker”Just tap your iPhone to the sticker — no special positioning needed. The NFC reader is at the top of the phone on most models. You’ll get a notification or haptic confirmation that TAP registered the action.
You don’t need to have TAP open or your iPhone unlocked for NFC completion to work. iOS handles background NFC reading automatically once the sticker is paired.
Reassigning a sticker
Section titled “Reassigning a sticker”If you tap a sticker that’s already linked to a different task or log, TAP will ask whether you want to reassign it. Confirm to move the link; the sticker’s previous association is removed.
Removing a sticker link
Section titled “Removing a sticker link”- Open the task or log the sticker is linked to
- Tap the NFC TAG card → Manage
- Swipe left on the sticker entry and tap Remove
The sticker itself is not erased — it can be reassigned or rewritten later.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Sticker not detected
- Hold the top of your iPhone close to the sticker (within ~2 cm)
- Remove any thick cases that might block the NFC antenna
- Make sure NFC is enabled in iPhone Settings → General → NFC
Wrong task triggered
- The sticker is linked to a different task or log. Open the correct task, tap NFC TAG → Manage, and pair a new sticker. The old sticker can be reassigned.
Sticker feels unresponsive
- NTAG213 stickers have a very small antenna. Try different angles or positions when scanning.
iPhone XR or earlier
- Background NFC reading isn’t supported on iPhone X and earlier. You’ll need to manually complete tasks in the app.
- Label your stickers with a marker or label printer so you know which is which before they’re stuck down
- Test before sticking — pair the sticker and tap to confirm it works before peeling the backing
- Put them where the habit happens — toothbrush for oral hygiene tasks, gym bag for workout check-ins, front door for morning routines
